This post walks through what&rsquo;s new, why we made the choices we did, and what&rsquo;s coming next.</p> <h2 id="why-we-redesigned">Why we redesigned</h2> <p>Our old site had served us well for years, but it was becoming hard to maintain and didn&rsquo;t perform well on mobile. We wanted something:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Fast</strong> — pages should load in under a second</li> <li><strong>Accessible</strong> — usable by everyone, including assistive technology users</li> <li><strong>Easy to update</strong> — content changes shouldn&rsquo;t require a developer</li> <li><strong>Credible-looking</strong> — design that signals professionalism</li> </ul> <h2 id="what-we-built-it-with">What we built it with</h2> <p>The site runs on <a href="https://gohugo.io">Hugo</a>, a static site generator, with components from the <a href="https://designsystem.digital.gov">U.S. Web Design System</a>. Every page is pre-rendered HTML served from a global CDN, so there&rsquo;s no database to query and nothing to wait for.</p>
